PHARMACEUTICAL FORM
Injectable suspension.
TARGET SPECIES
Cattle, sheep, goats, horses, dogs, cats
PROPERTIES
Benzylpenicillin is active against Gram-positive bacteria, whereas dihydrostreptomycin is active against Gram-negative germs and thus provides synergic action to benzylpenicillin.
Furthermore, the presence of a long acting penicillin (benzylpenicillin procaine) ensures a sustained therapeutic action.
The 1:1.25 benzylpenicillin-dihydrostreptomycin ratio endows optimum antibacterial activity upon both antibiotics. Benzylpenicillin is active for 24 h, but no long acting dihydrostreptomycin formulations are available.
By increasing dihydrostreptomycin levels, full therapeutic action can be maintained for 24 hours.
