PROPERTIES
Oxytetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is active against a wide variety of animal pathogens. It is indicated for many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections, and spirochetal, chlamydial, rickettsial, mycoplasmal and protozoal diseases (such as anaplasmosis and toxoplasmosis). Thanks to a controlled release of the active component, Oxtra Long Acting forms an antibiotic deposit system that solubilizes and enter the blood circulation rapidly at the beginning, and slower in a second time. The blood concentrations of oxytetracycline are initially very high, and then start decreasing gradually, remaining at therapeutic levels for more than 3-5 days. Oxtra Long Acting is well absorbed, spreads easily to all tissues, reaching in a short time efficacious therapeutical levels. It is eliminated in high percentage and under partially active form through the urine. The low toxicity and the reduced tendency to determine phenomena of sensitization, as compared to other antibiotics, allow to consider Oxtra Long Acting as one of the safest and most convenient antibiotics. Moreover, because of the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone as carrier, oxytetracycline is better tolerated locally and less painful at the injection site.
