PROPERTIES

Prontocill is a suspension for injection based on benzylpenicillin procaine, an antibiotic belonging to the ß-lactam family.
Benzylpenicillin, interfering in the formation of the bacterial cell wall, is bactericide against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria.
Following intramuscular or subcutaneous administration, benzylpenicillin procaine is absorbed slowly and distributes widely to organic fluids and tissues.
Elimination takes place by the renal and biliary route.

INDICATIONS

Prontocill is indicated in the treatment of infections due to penicillin-sensitive microorganisms, including:
Cattle: respiratory syndromes due to streptococci and Arcanobacterium (Corynebacterium) pyogenes, streptococcal mastitis, bacillary pyelonephritis, gas gangrene, tetanus.
Sheep: gangrenous mastitis, clostridiosis.

ADMINISTRATION

IM; SC.

DOSAGE

The approximate posology of Prontocill is 10 ml/100 kg bw (equivalent to 30,000 IU of penicillin procaine per kg bw), once every 24-48 hours, until complete remission of clinical symptoms.
Do not exceed 50 ml per injection site in cattle and 15 ml per injection site in swine.
