PROPERTIES
Vetamplius is a preparation based on ampicillin, a semi-synthetic derivative of 6-amino-penicillanic acid. It shares many of the therapeutic properties of penicillin but differs from penicillin and from other semi-synthetic derivatives since it is active toward both Gram-positive and Gram-negative germs. The action of ampicillin is greater than those of tetracycline and chloramphenicol toward many species of Salmonella spp., Proteus spp., E. coli, Shigella spp., and equine Haemophilus influenzae.
Ampicillin is a bactericidal antibiotic, and this is particularly important with regard to the treatment of infections resistant to antibiotic treatment with agents which are only bacteriostatic (above all, subacute and chronic bronchitis). Even at high dosages, ampicillin is not toxic and can even be injected by IV route.
INDICATIONS
Infections ascribed to sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative germs (Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., colibacilli, Proteus spp., Aerobacter spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.).
