Description

DIRECTIONS:
GASTRO-SHIELD is an orally administered paste for the treatment and prevention of gastritis and ulcers in equines. The action mechanism of this medication is the inhibition of the gastric acid production. Thus, it prevents gastritis and the formation of ulcers, both of which are very common in horses, especially those that compete. The main clinical signs of gastritis and ulcers include reduced appetite and poor performance, as well as colics. GASTRO-SHIELD is recommended for colts that are four weeks old and older, since it has no adverse side effects.

DOSAGE:
1 syringe with 6.15 g of oral paste every 600 kg of body weight. One daily intake during 28 days. For the treatment of gastric ulcers: administer the medication once daily for 4 weeks at a dose of 3.8 mg/kg of body weight. Each weight mark in the syringe piston will release enough omeprazole to treat a 100 kg animal. For the prevention of recurrent ulcers: continue the treatment for at least 4 weeks by administering the recommended daily maintenance dose of 1.9 mg/kg of body weight. Each weight mark in the syringe piston will release enough omeprazole to treat a 100 kg animal. The content of one syringe provides the dose corresponding to a 600 kg horse, with a ratio of 3.8 mg/kg (or 570 kg horse, with a ratio of 4 mg/kg).
ADMINISTRATION ROUTE:
Oral administration. Administer the dose in the rear part of the tongue.
WARNINGS:
Keep this medication in a cool and dry place. Keep away from light. Keep out of the reach of children. It must be kept under 30°C.
