COMPOSITION

1 g contains: lincomycin hydrochloride 189 mg equivalent to lincomycin 166.5 mg, spectinomycin hydrochloride 497.1 mg equivalent to spectinomycin 333.5 mg.

PROPERTIES

Micospectone is a (1:2) association of lincomycin and spectinomycin.
Lincomycin is a lincosamide antibiotic endowed with a spectrum of action mainly against Gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasmas.
It also exhibits a very high degree of diffusion to all organs and tissues, where concentrations are higher than those observed in the blood.
Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol antibiotic endowed with a spectrum of action which is slightly broader than that of lincomycin. It is active against some Gram-positive microorganisms, most Gram-negative microorganisms and mycoplasmas.
The concomitant use of the two active ingredients determines evident synergistic action towards many bacterial pathogens, including mycoplasmas.
Minimum inhibitory concentrations are considerably lower than those found for either antibiotic alone.
In oral form, since spectinomycin is practically not absorbed by the gastroenteric apparatus, such synergism is limited to gastroenteric infections.

INDICATIONS

For calves, piglets and poultry. For the treatment of pneumonia (bacteria and mycoplasmas), arthritis, polyarthritis, arthrosynovitis, neonatal/weaning bacterial enteritis, chronic respiratory disease, colibacillosis (poultry), pullorum disease, fowl typhoid, fowl cholera, infectious coryza and infections due to streptococci and staphylococci in poultry.

ADMINISTRATION

Oral.

DOSAGE

Poultry:
first 3 weeks: 3 g/10 kg bw for 3 days;
after third week: 1 g/10 kg bw for 3 days.
Calves: 6 g/100 kg bw (subdivided in two treatments).
