PROPERTIES
Cefquinome is bactericidal antibiotic belonging to the cephalosporin group, which acts by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Cefquinome is characterized by a broad spectrum of therapeutic action and a high stability against ß-lactamases.
In vitro studies have demonstrated that cefquinome is active against the most common Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including E. coli, Citrobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Serratia marcescens, Haemophilus somnus, Trueperella pyogenes, Bacillus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bacteroides spp., Clostridium spp., Fusobacterium spp., Prevotella spp., Actinobacillus spp. and Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.
In contrast with previous-generations cephalosporins, cefquinome is not hydrolysed by chromosomal Amp-C or plasmid mediated cephalosporinase of certain species of Enterobacteriaceae.
INDICATIONS
Cattle: treatment of respiratory infections due to Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia Haemolytica; treatment of digital dermatitis, infectious bulbar necrosis and footrot; treatment of acute mastitis due to E. coli in the presence of systemic symptomatology.
