Oral powder.

TARGET SPECIES

PROPERTIES

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic, acid-resistant, broad spectrum penicillin (active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria) with bactericidal activity. The antibiotic acts during replication phase of the microorganisms, interfering with biosynthesis of mucopeptides in the wall and causing rupture of the cell membrane and death of the cell by lysis. The action of amoxicillin is not significantly influenced by the presence of serum. Administered orally, the antibiotic is well tolerated and rapidly absorbed; presence of food in the digestive system does not interfere with absorption of the drug. In calves treated with amoxicillin trihydrate per os in reconstituted milk, the drug reaches maximum concentrations in the serum at the second hour and these concentrations remain effective for 12 hours.
In swine, amoxicillin administered, orally, induce maximum plasma concentrations beginning with the first hour and provide antibiotic cover for up to 12 hours.
Amoxicillin spreads reasonably well to all organs and tissues and is eliminated for the most part in unmodified, and therefore still active, form, via the kidneys.
Toxicity is very low, and amoxicillin can thus be used with ample margins of safety, even in cases of accidental overdose.

INDICATIONS

Respiratory infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, pleuritis, contagious pleuropneumonia in swine etc.), gastrointestinal infections (colibacillosis, salmonellosis, enteritis, cholangio-hepatitis), urinary and genital infections (MMA syndrome in the sow, nephritis, cystitis), articular and hoof infections, staphylococcal and streptococcal infections, especially in swine and birds.
Pullorum disease, fowl typhoid, pasteurellosis (fowl cholera), infectious coryza (caused by Avibacterium paragallinarum) in poultry.

ADMINISTRATION

Oral.

DOSAGE

Calves: 0.5-1 g of product/10 litres of reconstituted milk, twice a day for 3-5 days.
Poultry: up to 4 weeks of age 6-12 g of product/100 litres of water or 12-24 g of product/100 kg dry feed, over 4 weeks of age: 10-20 g of product/100 litres of water or 20-40 g/100 kg dry feed.
Duration of treatment: 3-5 days.
The indicated doses correspond to 0.1-0.2 g/10 kg bw per day (equivalent to 8-16 mg/kg bw of amoxicillin trihydrate).
