PROPERTIES
Aristos 4 is a solution based on marbofloxacin 4% expressly developed by FATRO to satisfy the specific therapeutic needs of fattening pigs. Marbofloxacin is a synthetic bactericidal antimicrobial agent belonging to the fluoroquinolone group, which acts through inhibition of DNA gyrase. It is efficacious against numerous Gram-positive bacteria (particularly Staphylococcus spp.), Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae) and mycoplasmas (Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae).
After intramuscular administration in swine at the recommended dose of 2 mg/kg b.w., marbofloxacin is rapidly absorbed and reaches its maximum plasma concentration of 1.5 µg/ml in less than one hour. Its bioavailability reaches almost 100%. Marbofloxacin binds weakly to plasma proteins (less than 10%) and distributes extensively to the entire organism. In most tissues (liver, kidneys, skin, lungs, bladder, uterus), it reaches concentrations higher than those in the plasma. Marbofloxacin is eliminated slowly in swine (t1/2=8-10 hours), principally in active form in the urine and in the feces.
INDICATIONS
Treatment of the respiratory infections caused by sensitive strains of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida.
