PROPERTIES

Vetil is a sterile injectable solution based on tylosin, a macrolide antibiotic of strategic importance in veterinary medicine.
Vetil, owing to its mechanism of action, its broad spectrum of activity and its efficient pharmacokinetics, is highly effective against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria, including penicillin-resistant strains, against some important Gram-negative bacteria and, differently from most antibiotics, it is also effective against atypical microorganisms, such as Mycoplasma, Spirochaetes, Rickettsia and Chlamydia.
Vetil is characterized by a rapid and complete distribution to all body fluids and tissues, which guarantees high and therapeutically efficacious concentrations against most pathogens in many organs and systems. Tylosin produces maximum antibiotic concentration peaks in the blood in a short time, 1-2 hours, persisting at therapeutically-active concentrations for 24 hours at the dosages indicated. This ensures a continuous antibacterial effect even with just one daily inoculation.
Furthermore tylosin accumulates within cells, including macrophages, in which it may reach more than 20 times the plasma concentration. The routes of elimination of the antibiotic, which takes place almost completely in active form, are principally the biliary and urinary routes, as well as with all the other organic secretions and excreta, including milk (concentrations up to 3-5 times those in the blood) and gastrointestinal secretions. Tylosin has a high safety index and extremely low toxicity.

INDICATIONS

Vetil can be used to prevent and control several diseases caused by micro-organisms susceptible to tylosin in cattle, pigs, dogs and cats.
Respiratory infections: rhinitis, bronchitis, broncho-pneumonia, pneumonia, pleuritis, shipping fever.
Intestinal infections: enteritis, enterotoxaemia, dysentery, chronic colitis, diphtheria.
Urogenital and mammary infections: vulvovaginitis, endometritis, metritis, metroperitonitis, mastitis, haemoglobinuria, pyelonephritis, cystitis.
